You just never know what you might find in those little U.S. Postal trucks! This former U.S. Postal worker is now facing federal prison time after admitting to accepting cash in exchange for delivering packages that she knew were illegal and had drugs in them. Bad mailman!
Evelyn Ramona Price, 53, illegally redirected several packages on her delivery route over a period of about five months. After she was found out, she clearly lost her job!
She pleaded guilty to bribery of a public official and faces a maximum of 15 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Hopefully she saved up some of those cash bribes!
A man named “Steve” would call her on the morning the packages were due to arrive at the post office and slyly arrange a meeting place where they could exchange cash for the packages with drugs.
She would deliver them either to a local supermarket or a veterinary office, in exchange for $50 per package. While she swears she never knew exactly what was in the packages, she said she “figured it was some kind of drugs, but I don’t know what drugs.”
She received around one to two packages per month and recognized them because they always looked the same and were addressed to the same address.
Last October, though, “Steve” called off their meeting, where she was about to deliver four of the packages. He told her something wasn’t right and soon after returning to the post office, Price was questioned by investigators, where she admitted to what she had been doing.
The police immediately seized the packages, which contained a total of more than 20 pounds of marijuana.
Price has since remained free on $50,000 bail bonds after her arrest this past April.
